The Riandos Present Flim du Jour - Day 1

Yesterday day one of this round of Film du Jour took place at the Mission Gallery, Swansea. This was our piece for the Gathered Again exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Swansea Foundation Art and Design course. A selection of graduates from the last 50 years submitted work accumulating in a not to be missed show (closes 2nd August 2015).

Along with a group of volunteers from the community we worked together to produce a film based on the headlines of that days newspapers. This was then premiered in a cinema intervention at the opening night of the exhibition.

Valentines Day is a fake excuse for capitalism but love is real and is everywhere

On Friday the 13th February we attended "the feast of the unloved" an event by and including performance from Joan Jones (The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery’s artist in residence and a long term sister).

Joan was resplendent, beautiful and filthy, some of the other performances were really angry and angsty but ultimately we are filled with inertia about peoples need for romantic love or cards when real love is all around us.

This event encouraged people to connect in a real way, to share an experience that was anti valentines!

When Jeremy Deller met the Riandos

We were very excited to go to the Tea with Jeremy Deller event at Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery this week. This is part of a series of events connected to the English Magic exhibition. It was a great talk, some interesting audience question handled very well by Deller. Bonnie one of the curators from the museum showed us some of the Hen Harriers from the collection, which was eye opening. 

Deller then spent time to meet everyone who wanted to, which was a really great thing to do. We enjoyed meeting him, and hope we didn't gush too much! 

We have also been volunteering at the exhibition like total groupies! It has been great to talk to everyone visiting the exhibition and give them some extra information, showing them some historic items including an William Morris original print block and we have also been helping people make there own print of 2 of the paintings in the show.

"insert celebrity" meets The Riandos

In there never ending quest to meet us two more celebrities have recently managed to tick us off their list. Possibly the two most famous women in the western world Madonna and Angelina Jolie caught up with us this week in order to wish our absent friend happy birthday on our behalf. Madonna was struggling to speak through her golden "grills" and kept describing everything as Cray-Cray which I was later informed meant crazy........which was sort of apt in many ways....Jolie on the other hand managed to keep it all together like the professional she is. I wonder if her next movie role is for a southern part as her accent did sometimes included a drawl similar to that found in the deep american south....you got to have a process I suppose.......

There will be more coming from the Riandos over the coming months, we have both had a bit of a break to work on different side projects. The latest of which was a little bit of crafting at the Bristol Harbour Festival. x

Jenn :- Yes....(we've always been clowns).... You bought the make up!!
Fran:-The lengths we'll go to for people to like us are astounding.. I hope it works......

Jenn:- Im actually quite scared of clowns....
